Our Heart Is For The Military & For Military Stepfamilies

     In April of 2000 I became a single parent with 4 young children and made the choice to step away from the Air Force to raise my kids full-time. It seems like that was an easy decision, but given the circumstances and having to leave the job I loved, it was not. My heart never left the military.

     Fast forward four years and I meet and marry Tammy Wheeles who brought her own son and daughter into my two sons and two daughters making us the modern day Brady Bunch! The moment after we both said “I do”, we walked into a home full of six children all looking to us to somehow make this bunch work. Not an easy task as we discovered. We had our way ups and our low downs, but in the end with the Lord’s grace, we blended. Everything we speak about in the Military Ready Stepfamily seminar comes from our time in the trenches raising our own stepfamily and from over thirteen years of doing stepfamily ministry. We love engaging and teaching military steps how to make the tough life that is the military family work for them!      In addition to this book, Todd also wrote a summary of the unique stressors facing military stepfamilies which was published by Bethany House in Ron Deal’s “The Smart Stepfamily – DVD Participant’s Guide.” He has also written articles on marriage and remarriage which have appeared in the Smart Stepfamily E-Zine and Focus on the Family’s “Thriving Family” magazine and has appeared on the nationally syndicated “FamilyLife Today” radio talk show with Dennis Rainey speaking on military stepfamily ministry.
